Radhika Balakrishnan is an accomplished Carnatic vocalist with a profound passion for music that began at the age of 10.
She has been performing since 2006 and has graced many prestigious stages across South India, including the renowned Chennai music season.
A distinguished academic, Radhika graduated from the University of Mysore with a record-setting 15 gold medals and honors. She holds a Master’s degree and a Doctorate in Carnatic music under the guidance of Karnataka Kalashree Vid Dr. RN Sreelatha.
Currently, Radhika serves as an Associate Professor and content creator in the Carnatic Vocal Department at the Shankar Mahadevan Academy. In 2023, she was appointed as the first visiting professor for the Chair of Indian Music by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. This role has enabled her to introduce Indian classical music to a global audience, fostering a deeper appreciation for this rich tradition among Western musicians.
Throughout her career, Radhika has not only performed but also contributed significantly to the academic world. She has written articles for various esteemed publications and presented numerous lecture demonstrations, including at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) and other prestigious forums​.
Radhika’s style is a unique blend of traditional Carnatic music with modern influences, making her performances appealing to both classical and contemporary audiences. Her dedication to popularising Carnatic music among the youth, using social media and new-age tools, showcases her innovative approach to this ancient art form.
